What She's Not Tell You: Why Women Hide the Whole Truth and What Marketers Can Do About It

Thursday, May 27th Luncheon

Featured guest: Jen Drexler, author and co-founder of Just Ask A Woman consultancy

Jen Drexler is a straight shooter who isn’t afraid to ask women challenging questions about intimate subjects. Thanks to her trend-spotting, strategic insight and clear focus on female consumers, Drexler is a national expert on marketing with women. She is a founding member of the New York based consultancy Just Ask a Woman and is the co-author of the agency’s new book What She’s Not Telling You: Why Women Hide the Whole Truth and What Marketers Can Do About It. (2010)

Jen is sought after for her non-traditional qualitative research approaches. Her company has worked with more than 90 blue chip companies including Bloomingdale’s, Best Buy, Jergen’s, Estee Lauder, Westin, Kraft Foods, IKEA and Citigroup. She is frequently interviewed about why women do what they do and what it means for marketers and has had appearances on The Today Show, CNBC, Fox Business and NPR and interviews in The San Francisco Chronicle and Advertising Age. Her perspective is captured (almost compulsively) through social media channels, posts on the company’s blogs and Tweets as well as bylined content for magazines like Marie Claire and blogs like WorkingMother.com.

Jen’s background includes consumer trend forecasting and public relations. She was previously the TalentBank Director for Faith Popcorn’s BrainReserve and before that she was a public relations specialist for Nike Communications specializing in luxury brands and for Ketchum Communications specializing in biotechnology projects. In 2008, Jen won Advertising Women of New York’s prestigious Changing the Game Award and has been the keynote speaker for her alma mater Lehigh University’s Honors Convocation. She lives in Maplewood, NJ with her husband and toddler twins.

Rebuild Government Discussion

Have a say in the future of Memphis/Shelby County

The Memphis & Shelby County Charter Commission began with a blank slate, and in the coming weeks, its task forces will make recommendations and they're asking for voters to share their opinions.

Charter Commission meetings are open for all citizens to attend, but because many of us don't have the time, the Commission has asked Rebuild Government to act as a conduit for the public's ideas and recommendations. Currently, one of our local advertising professionals, LeeAnn Christopherson, is working with Rebuild Government to help foster a countywide conversation about what we want in a new government.

So, do your future a favor and join in as we share ideas of how it could increase efficiency and end duplication; how it could jump start our economy; how it could make our neighborhoods safer; how it could save money; how it could eliminate red tape and bureaucracy, and most of all, how a new government could work for everybody in every part of our community.

Tuesday, May 25th
5:30 - 7:00 PM

Larry Shaw to receive AIGA Design Fellows Award
We are joining AIGA Memphis in honoring the late Larry Shaw as a recipient of the AIGA Fellow Award, which recognizes the contributions and achievements of leaders in the Memphis design community.

Shaw’s design contributions are vast, but he is most well known locally for his work at Stax Records, including the international branding of the company. Shaw developed not only the Stax logo, but worked diligently on album covers, advertising campaigns, marketing promotions and eventually led the company’s film division. After Stax folded in the mid-1970s, Shaw opened The Shaw Group, the south’s first African American-owned, full-service advertising agency.

Guests set to pay tribute to Shaw during the reception include Al Bell, Kim Shaw Brisco, Deannie Parker, Howard Roberson and Michael Thompson.

There will be a reception starting at 5:30pm, followed by a panel discussion of his life and design legacy, and an brief award presentation to his family.
